RECTOR's Welcome
Welcome to St Mark's Church website!
St Mark's is a friendly parish church located on Potters Road in Barnet (halfway between New Barnet and High Barnet stations.)
The church started life as a mission chapel within the parish of Chipping Barnet and later became a parish church. The nave was started in 1897 and finished in 1899, while the chancel and halls were completed as recently as 2005. We are now part of the Chipping Barnet Team Ministry, along with St John the Baptist, Chipping Barnet; St Stephen's Bells Hill and St Peter's, Arkley. The Chipping Barnet Team is a parish within the Church of England's Diocese of St Albans.
As an Anglican parish church our worship comes from the Church of England's liturgies, ‘Common Worship’ and ‘The Book of Common Prayer.’ But our worship is in the 'high church' or 'anglo-catholic' style with a focus on the Sacraments and the beauty of holiness revealed through the dignity and ceremony of our worship. We have a lively Sunday school and an active social life which helps draw our diverse, all-age congregation together.
Our principle act of worship is a Eucharist (Mass/Communion) at 9.15am each Sunday. On the first Sunday of the month the service is in traditional language, while on 5th Sunday's it is a shorter and less formal Family Eucharist; all other Sundays we use modern language. The Sunday School meets every Sunday, accept the first of the month. Sunday services are usually followed by refreshments.
And there are also Said Eucharists on Tuesdays at 7.30pm and Wednesdays at 11am.
Other services take place on major feast days, as well as during Lent, Advent and at other special times. These range from Stations of the Cross to a Children’s Crib service.
We hope that you will come and join us at St Mark's. Whether you are visiting the area or looking for a church community to worship in, we assure you of a warm welcome as we come together to glorify God and share in fellowship as his children in this place.
